But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 30:17
Worship the LORD your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you....
Exodus 23:25
In 2012, the Greater Love Uganda Ministry held its first medical triage clinic in Jinja, Uganda. The medical staff treated close to 700 people during the course of a 2-day medical clinic. The following year we decided to take the medical clinic to a local village and increase our service project to 3-days. In 2013, we served more than 1,000 men, women and children. Each year since 2013 our ministry has held roving 3-day medical triage clinics that have served thousands of people who would not have had the funds to otherwise seek medical attention. The idea of a offering a permanent, reduced fee medical clinic was proposed in 2014 and came to fruition in April 2018.
The construction of the small clinic began in early 2017 after the funding was raised through generous supporters of the Greater Love Uganda Ministry (aka Calvary Orphan Outreach Ministry). In April 2018 the clinic officially opened when our mission team is visiting and we will be holding our 7th year of medical triage clinics. We think that this 7th year of service is significant because it identified in the Bible with something being "finished" or "complete." The clinic will remain open through out the year with a local staff of 8 running the clinic and the Greater Love Uganda Ministry providing the means to purchase consumables used at the clinic.
In the fall of 2018 the ministry decided there was a significant need in this community for a maternity ward that offered prenatal care, postnatal care and safe deliveries. We view offering quality maternity care as a form of orphan prevention because if we can prevent maternal death, then we have saved a child from becoming an orphan. Uganda's Maternity Mortality Rate is 343 deaths per 100,000 live births. According to Unicef, one out of every 49 mothers will die of a complication related to pregnancy or birth.
By August of 2020, the second floor of the medical center was completed with a maternity ward, labor/delivery room and a long-term treatment room.
